WI vs AUS 2nd Test match highlights
Meanwhile, Australia didn’t get off to a great start in the first innings, but Beau Webster and Alex Carey stood firm and saved the day with crucial half-centuries, helping the tourists post a modest total of 286 runs on the board. The West Indies bowling attack was led by Alzarri Joseph with 4 wickets, while Jayden Seales chipped in with 2 wickets.
In response, the West Indies, riding on Brendon King's 75 and lower-order contributions, got close to Australia's 286, giving them only a 33-run lead. The second innings saw Australia under pressure early once again. Jayden Seales delivered a fiery spell, removing both openers, Sam Konstas and Usman Khawaja, cheaply. For a moment, the West Indies had the upper hand.
But Australia stars Cameron Green and Steve Smith stepped up when it mattered. Green made a fighting 52, while Smith was steady and dependable with 71 runs and helped Australia post 243 in their second innings, setting West Indies a target of 277. For the West Indies, Shamar Joseph scalped 4 wickets, while Seales, Alzarri Joseph, and Justin Greaves grabbed 2 wickets each.
Chasing 277 for victory, the West Indies collapsed badly. By lunch, they were 33/4, and the rest of the batting lineup couldn’t offer any resistance. Australia cleaned them up quickly in the second session, bowling them out well short to seal a comfortable 133-run win in the second Test.
Alex Carey wins Player of the Match for crucial knocks in the 2nd WI vs AUS Test
After the match, Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey was named Player of the Match for his crucial 63 and 30 knocks during his team’s thrilling win over the West Indies.
Alex Carey said at the post-match presentation, “I think going out with a good intent, the wickets haven't been easy to bat. It has been fun playing on such surfaces; it hasn't been easy, but we have had a method to adapt. Contributing and helping Australia win the series has been fantastic. Two years back, they came over to our shores, and we couldn't win that series, so to come over here and win is fantastic.”
