Former Indian keeper-batsman Parthiv Patel has urged Virat Kohli’s men not to take New Zealand lightly in the ICC World Test Championship final. India and New Zealand will lock horns in the two-year tournament decider to claim the ultimate prize in Test cricket. Parthiv Patel believes that the Kiwis’ ability to come together in global competitions makes them a dangerous outfit.

The Black Caps famously stunned the men in blue in the 2019 World Cup semi-final in Manchester and scored a 2-0 victory when India visited New Zealand to play two Tests last year. Kane Williamson’s men will also play a couple of Tests against England before the decider, enabling them to acclimatize to the conditions probably better than their opposition.

Parthiv Patel underlined that New Zealand’s greatest strength is to come up as a team in the game. The Gujarat-born former cricketer pointed out that Kiwis know how to get the best out of every player in a limited time as they understand everyone’s limitations.

“I think New Zealand’s biggest strength is to come up as a team in the game. I think, yes, all the teams have their superstars, but the Kiwis know their limitations, they know if someone’s capable of scoring 40 or 50 in a limited time and get 100% out of each player,” Patel told in the Star Sports’ show Cricket Connected.

Parthiv Patel further claimed that individuals like Kane Williamson or Tom Latham would not scare the opposition. However, the 36-year old believes that India needs to be wary of New Zealand, which comes together in crucial moments in ICC trophies.

“If you look at their names – no one would be scared of Kane Williamson alone, no one will be scared of Tom Latham alone or all their fast bowlers. Their ability to perform together. I think that’s so important; as far as New Zealand’s performance is concerned in ICC trophies,” he added.
