“Ohh Shami, Shami, Shamiiiii, you beauty!”– This would be a collective gasp from the Indian fans as the right-handed pacer Mohammed Shami knocked over BJ Watling with an absolute jaffa to give India yet another breakthrough on the fifth morning of the WTC final.
It was a perfect set-up from the champion pacer.
Mohammed Shami got one to whiz past BJ Watling’s outside edge with a brilliant outswinger on the first delivery of the 71st over.
Little that Watling knew that it was a set-up as Shami got one to straighten off the seam on the very next delivery.
Watling ended up playing the wrong line and, as a result, saw his stumps pegged back, leading the Kiwis reeling at 5/135.
This was the second wicket in successive overs that India got before the Lunch break.
Prior to Mohammed Shami’s over, Ishant Sharma dismissed Henry Nicholls, who was lulled into an ill-fated drive away from his body, and Rohit Sharma did the rest by taking a brilliant catch in front of Cheteshwar Pujara.
Mohammed Shami was the pick of the Indian bowlers in the morning session as he dismissed the likes of Ross Taylor and then BJ Watling.
At the time of writing, the players had gone off for the Lunch break with New Zealand reeling at 5/135 after 72 overs.
