Southern Brave Coach Mahela Jayawardene has stated that Tymal Mills and Chris Jordan could be the perfect combination for England’s death overs bowling at the T20 World cup. The left-arm quick Tymal Mills had an economy rate of under 1.11 runs per ball in the death while Jordan had 1.37 runs per ball and proved to be match-winners for their side in “The Hundred” tournament.
Both the bowlers played a key part in Southern Brave reaching the inaugural finals and going on to win the tournament as well on Saturday in the Men’s final. The England limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan has also voted for the inclusion of Tymal Mills in the T20 World Cup.
Mahela Jayawardene Reveals The Plans That Worked Well
Mahela Jayawardene revealed that he had planned from the start of keeping Jordan and Mills for the back end of the innings as they were proven customers and was delighted by the arrival of Craig Overton from the test squad that boasted their lineup in the powerplay. He explained the luxury he had to rotate the bowlers for the powerplay and the end overs.
“From the beginning we knew that those two were going to be our closers, and that we needed to make sure we took it to that part of the game so that the experienced guys could close it for us,”
“What we initially found difficult was the Powerplays where we weren’t picking up wickets”
“We rotated a few things and conditions helped. In the play-offs, we got a fresh wicket at The Oval and luckily Craig [Overton] got released from the Test squad – we felt that he’s a very good new-ball bowler – and him and George [Garton] had a very good combination going. That allowed us to keep CJ and T to the back end.” Mahela Jayawardene told
Mahela Jayawardene Feels Tymal Mills Should Make The T20 World Cup Squad
Mahela Jayawardene felt that Archer’s absence for the T20 World cup could be compensated with a bowler like Tymal Mills who has been in excellent form throughout the Hundred tournament. He added that it gives the skipper a lot more options in UAE for the T20 Worldcup.
“I’d be disappointed if he’s not on that plane for the World Cup,.”You have some amazing talent in CJ but obviously Jofra [Archer] is not going to be available for the World Cup and I think CJ and him [Mills] had a very good partnership for us. It gives England a lot of good options going into the World Cup, especially in the UAE as well.” He added
Mahela Jayawardene has been coaching the Mumbai Indians as well from 2017 and has taken them to three titles in his reins already.
