"If KL Rahul Continues To Play Waiting Game, He'll Struggle To Keep His Place" - Dodda Ganesh
Former Indian cricketer Dodda Ganesh was quite impressed with both Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Hooda’s batting performances in the recent T20I series against Ireland and England.
Hooda and Yadav both hammered T20I hundreds with strike rates of over 200, and Ganesh believes this is the best method to bat in T20 cricket.
KL Rahul, India’s staple at the top of the order, is now injured and may be unable to play in the Asia Cup in August.
On Monday, Dodda Ganesh took to Twitter to discuss the importance of Rahul batting with a higher strike rate. Despite piling up the runs, the 30-year-old was chastised for continuing to play like an anchor in the IPL.
Selectors Need To Take Notice Of Players Such As Sanju Samson And Prithvi Shaw
Ganesh believes Rahul will need to bat as he did maybe five years ago to keep his place in the shortest format. He wrote on Twitter:
“Hooda and SKY with their intent have shown how T20 batting is done. It’s time KL Rahul too pulls up his socks and bats the way he used to in 2016/17. If he continues to play the waiting game like he does in the IPL, he’ll struggle to keep his place #DoddaMathu #CricketTwitter”

Dodda Ganesh also mentioned the importance of players like Prithvi Shaw and Sanju Samson, who are currently struggling to gain consistent opportunities in India’s T20I lineup. When it comes to shortlisting players, he believes selectors should consider intent more than any other factor, stating:
“Shaw, Hooda, SKY and Samson. These kind of batsmen bat at the top gear no matter what, and are the need of the hour as far as modern-day T20 batting is concerned. Selectors need to take notice of this #DoddaMathu #CricketTwitter”
The T20I series versus England provided a solid sense of how the Men in Blue desire to play cricket. It will be fascinating to watch if all of the players named by Dodda Ganesh are selected for the T20Is against the West Indies.
