Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar said that the faith shown in him by the skipper, MS Dhoni, gives him a lot of confidence and helps him to perform well on the big stage.

Since debuting for the team back in 2018 where they won the title, Chahar’s career has been on the rise. He went on to make his debut for the national team and has also registered the second best-ever figures in a T20I by a bowler (6/7).

Mahi bhai has given me a lot of advice. The best advice was to believe in myself. When I first played for CSK, the amount of confidence he gave me reflected in my performance. He’s the number one captain.”

If he believes in you, you have to believe in yourself. The belief I got from playing for CSK was massive. That changed my career. The belief and confidence Mahi bhai gave me was the best,” Chahar said.

Chahar has always been confident about his ability with the bat but he didn’t get a chance to showcase his skills. However, during India’s tour of Sri Lanka last year, he played a brilliant knock to help India beat the Lankans.

When I started playing, I always wanted to be an all-rounder. I wanted to work on my batting as much as my bowling. It was a matter of opportunity that I was waiting for. Finally, I got that match. When I went to bat, all I was thinking was to make India win. First 20 balls, I didn’t score any runs, only one or two runs.”

We had the overs. I thought we had to play all the overs to win the match. What I thought was to take on certain bowlers. My whole thinking was to win the match because that was my dream. Every kid wants to play that kind of innings,” he recalled.
