Former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt believes that the upcoming tour of England is a great opportunity for Suryakumar Yadav to establish himself as one of the top-class players of the modern era.
Suryakumar Yadav has received a call-up to the England tour alongside fellow Mumbai cricketer Prithvi Shaw as injury replacements after the likes of Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, and Washington Sundar got ruled out.
Suryakumar Yadav has been in a cracking form this year and he has made the most of whatever opportunities he has got in white-ball cricket.
The stylish right-hander has scored 2 50+ scores in three T20I innings thus far besides winning the ‘Player of the Series’ award in his debut ODI series against Sri Lanka.
“Suryakumar Yadav has a huge opportunity to make a mark in England if he gets an opportunity to play. People have started developing a view of him as being a classy player. If he scores in England as well, he will prove that he is a top-class player because England is a tough place to score runs,” said Salman Butt in his latest YouTube video.
Butt further added that out of all Indian batters who are in Sri Lanka at the moment, Suryakumar Yadav has looked the most mature and given the fact that he has debuted at the age of 30 which is generally the time when a batsman is at his peak is something that is quite evident in his performances currently.
”He has debuted at 30. The maturity that he has gained by playing years of domestic cricket is visible in his batting. There are many other talented Indian batsmen who are playing fearless cricket but Suryakumar Yadav is proving to be a lot more mature. Most batsmen are at their peak at the age at which Suryakumar Yadav has made his debut,” he added.
Since making his First-Class debut in 2010, Suryakumar has featured in 77 matches in which he has scored 5326 runs at an average of 44.01 with 26 fifties and 14 tons against his name.
That said, with reports emerging that Yadav is one of the eight people who came in close contact with Covid infected Krunal Pandya, it will be interesting to see if and when does the 30-year-old travels to the UK for the Test series, starting August 04.
