Former Indian cricketer Ashish Nehra backed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to play in the T20 World Cup 2024. He said that if they are fit one shouldn’t discuss their form as they will be there in the team no matter what.
The road to ICC T20 World Cup 2024 for the Indian cricket team has begun. The Men in Blue are currently locking horns with Australia in the five-match T20I series. Since the last one year, BCCI has given ample opportunities to youngsters players in the T20 team as they are trying to create the core.
The youngsters have cashed in opportunities well and the big question remains will India persist with the same young team or not? Also, the big question that has many on their toes is will Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli make it into the team for the T20 World Cup 2024 or not.
The duo hasn’t played a single T20I since the last T20 World Cup and there’s no clarity about if they will be there or not. Many experts and fans have shared their opinion on the same and the latest to join the bandwagon is Ashish Nehra.
Ashish Nehra believes that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will definitely be playing in the T20 World Cup 2024 if they are fit. Speaking to Jio Cinema, he explained:
“Somebody like Rohit Sharma. Somebody like Virat Kohli. If they are fit, we do not need to discuss their form. Definitely, they will be there in the Caribbean and USA.”
I don’t know about captaincy – Ashish Nehra
Ashish Nehra also opined on who should be captaining India for the T20 World Cup 2024. He highlighted Hardik Pandya’s injury, saying that it’ll be tough to give him captaincy after his injury.
“I don’t know about captaincy, there is still time. It is a tricky one for the selectors also. Hardik Pandya also got injured and it will be interesting to see when he comes back into the Indian side. If Hardik Pandya plays straight in the IPL, it will be difficult for any selection committee.”
Earlier there were reports which suggested that Rohit Sharma will be captaining the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2024. Selectors are keen to have him on the team as a leader.
