Yesterday, while practising, I got hit, I will have to go and check what is the issue - Shreyas Iyer

Opting to bat first, Punjab Kings posted a gigantic total of 219/5 on the board, thanks to brilliant batting performances of Nehal Wadhera (70 off 37), Shashank Singh (59* off 30), and Azmatullah Omarzai (21* off 9).

Defending the total, Harpreet Brar shined with a three-wicket haul while Marco Jansen and Azmatullah Omarzai picked up two wickets each to restrict RR to 209/7.

Speaking after the match, Shreyas Iyer revealed that his finger injury forced him to be subbed out in the second innings. He elaborated:

"The reason is the finger over here (pointing at his forefinger). I don't know what has happened. Yesterday while practising I got hit, I will have to go and check what is the issue here."

He has been consistent in the nets - Shreyas Iyer on Harpreet Brar

Shreyas Iyer added that he was just passing on the message to players from the boundary line after being subbed out in the second innings. He said:

"I was just passing on the message to all the players to keep a positive body language, you tend to drop and feel the game has gone away from you, but I am proud of every player out there to show that sort of great and bold approach."

Shreyas Iyer further lauded Harpreet Brar for his match-winning three-wicket haul. He stated:

"He has been consistent in the nets. He wants to do the best for himself, he was hungry for this opportunity and today I feel he stepped in and delivered at his best, congratulations to him and his mindset has been tremendous throughout."

Shreyas Iyer was also delighted with the attitude and approach of his team on the Indian Premier League 2025 resumption. He said:

"Absolutely brilliant approach and attitude coming in after the break, the boys were in high spirits and we also needed a rest, going forward in the tournament, was the right time we came in together and showed the kind of mindset to win irrespective of the situation. Going forward we saw that the spinners were difficult to charge over, we hardly got runs off their spinners and that's one learning, apart from that we can change the game from any situation."

PBKS lost the previous IPL match against RR

Punjab Kings suffered a 50-run defeat against Rajasthan Royals in Match 18 of the Indian Premier League 2025 in Mullanpur on April 5.

After opting to bowl first in the match, the bowling unit struggled from the very start as RR piled up 205/4 in their 20 overs. Lockie Ferguson was the most effective bowler, claiming 2/37, including the key scalps of Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Marco Jansen and Arshdeep Singh picked up a wicket each but were expensive, conceding 45 and 35 runs respectively, and RR were allowed to post a big score.

Chasing the target, Punjab had a disastrous start. Jofra Archer ran through the top order by removing debutant Priyansh Arya and captain Shreyas Iyer in the first over itself. Marcus Stoinis and Prabhsimran Singh followed soon after as PBKS collapsed to 43/4 inside seven overs.

Nehal Wadhera emerged as a lone warrior as he slammed 62 off 41 balls, and Glenn Maxwell chipped in with a crucial 30 runs, but the required rate kept climbing. Once both fell in quick succession, PBKS’s chase fell apart, and they were restricted to 155/9.
