The controversy surrounding Imam-ul-Haq’s injury has taken another turn, with former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali calling for serious action over the claims that the batter faked his injury.
Imam was ruled out of Pakistan’s second Test against England at Lord’s after suffering a left calf injury on the opening day. The injury came after he had dropped two catches and left Pakistan with one less batting option. Later, questions were raised over whether the injury was genuine.
Lord’s drama puts Imam-ul-Haq under massive pressure
The matter became even more controversial on Day 4 when Imam-ul-Haq was seen on the sidelines hitting a ball while his injured calf was taped. He was limping and appeared uncomfortable during the drill.
The footage led to more criticism, with many former England and Pakistan players accusing him of faking the injury to avoid a difficult situation. Basit Ali has now questioned why the blame was placed on Imam when the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) own medical panel had confirmed an injury. According to the medical report, scans showed a stretch in Imam’s calf muscle.
Basit believes that the medical department should also be questioned instead of putting the entire blame on the player. The issue became more serious after former Pakistan chief selector Mohammad Wasim brought up Imam’s previous injury history.
Basit Ali wants court action over ‘Fake Injury’ claims
He recalled an incident from 2022 when Pakistan’s physiotherapist had already warned him that Imam can complain of an injury and raised similar issues from the past.

Basit Ali said on Samaa TV, “Who put the blame? Who did the blame game? The management, right? There were claims from the management that he had a fake injury and that he was being stopped from playing. A few more excuses from the ex-cricketer have come. It is unfair to humiliate a player in such a manner, especially when the PCB's own medical panel had reported an injury. So, they should be taken to court as well.”
Saeed Ajmal blasts Pakistan’s handling of Imam injury drama
Meanwhile, former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal also questioned the handling of the drama. He pointed out that if the medical panel had initially declared Imam unfit, there should be a clear explanation for how his status later changed.
Ajmal also felt that the changing statements have tarnished the reputation of Pakistan cricket, and now Imam is facing the massive backlash. Ajmal further wondered that if Imam was fit and deliberately refused to play, then strict action should be taken against him. But if he was genuinely injured, then the PCB and its medical team must accept responsibility for this mess.

Saeed Ajmal said during the same discussion, “Which court will not get any result? The thing is, if the panel has declared you unfit, then how did they declare you fit later? They were pressured by the international media, especially English media, and they changed their statement. Now look, who lost respect in this? Pakistan, of course.”
He further said, “If Imam was actually fit and deliberately avoided playing despite being available, then he should face appropriate action. No player should be allowed to misuse an injury claim. But if he was genuinely injured and followed the medical advice, then the PCB and its medical panel also need to take responsibility.”
