Former Pakistan National Cricket Team skipper Misbah-ul-Haq lashed out at the Shan Masood-led side amid their poor performances in the ongoing Test series against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team. He said that the team needs to play cricket according to modern-day cricket.
The new era in the Pakistan National Cricket Team didn't start in the way they would've wanted. The kick started the Test series against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team on a disappointing note as they went on to face a poor loss against the visitors and slipped down in the World Test Championship points table.
Pakistan National Cricket Team looked in dominating position to win the game on the first three days. They declared the innings after posting 448 runs and after that, nothing went their way. They couldn't put pressure on the ball as Bangladesh went on to take the lead of over 100 runs.
Just when it seemed that the match was going towards the draw, Pakistan came up with a horrible batting performance. They got all out under 150 runs as the Bangladesh National Cricket Team set themselves a target of just 30 runs. The hosts went on to lose the game by the margin of 10 wickets and went 1-0 down in the series.
"We need to play cricket the way the world is playing"- Misbah-ul-Haq
Misbah-ul-Haq wasn't happy with the way the Pakistan National Cricket Team played in the first game. He said that if the team has to survive in modern-day cricket they need to improve their strike rate. Misbah-ul-Haq stressed how teams are scoring at a net run rate of 4-5 in the longest format of the game and took a dig at Babar Azam and other Pakistan batters for their slow batting.
He also stressed that the Pakistan National Cricket Team don't have quality pacers. Misbah-ul-Haq pointed out that even Bangladesh bowlers bowl at 145 kmph consistently, adding that the team needs to polish good fast bowlers from the domestic circuit. He explained:
"If you want to survive in modern-day cricket, you need to improve your strike-rate. Not only in T20Is, even in Test matches teams are scoring at 4-5 runs per over. We need to play cricket the way the world is playing," Misbah-ul-Haq said.
"Even Bangladesh has a pacer who's bowling at 145KPH consistently. We need to find pacers in Pakistan who can also bowl at that pace, I'm sure there are pacers in our domestic cricket, and we need to polish them," Misbah-ul-Haq said at a press conference.
Even in the ongoing second Test against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team, Pakistan aren't having a great time with the bat. They have been asked to bat first and so far it hasn't been a great day for them with the bat. Shan Masood-led side yet again lost early wickets.
Pakistan National Cricket Team lost 4 wickets for just 151 runs. Opener Saim Ayub (58) and skipper Shan Masood (57) slammed half-centuries. The onus now will be on Babar Azam to take his team to a big total.
