Former Pakistan captain and ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently in jail, has criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following the team’s loss to India in the ongoing Asia Cup. Khan suggested that only drastic changes could help Pakistan compete against the Men in Blue in future matches.

Team India defeated Pakistan, led by Salman Ali Agha, in their Asia Cup Super Four clash. Abhishek Sharma, who scored 74 runs off 39 balls, helped the team secure a six-wicket victory. In the group stage match, India had also beaten Pakistan comfortably, securing a seven-wicket win with 25 balls remaining.

According to news agency PTI, the former fast bowler suggested that the only way the team could secure a victory is with Asim Munir and Mohsin Naqvi opening the batting.

Imran Khan also recommended that former Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa and Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja should serve as on-field umpires. His remarks were a sarcastic take on the current state of Pakistan cricket.

Imran Khan Blames Mohsin Naqvi for Damaging Pakistani Cricket

Imran Khan added that Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar should act as the third umpire. Aleema also revealed that she had updated her brother about Pakistan’s consecutive defeats to India in the Asia Cup.

The former World Cup-winning captain blamed Chairman Mohsin Naqvi for harming Pakistani cricket through “incompetence” and “nepotism.” He has been highly critical of the board’s management and repeatedly highlighted the team’s struggles under the current setup.

Khan further accused Munir of manipulating the February 2024 general elections to deny his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), victory with the assistance of former Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja. He has been in jail since August 2023 on multiple cases.

PCB and ACC Chief Mohsin Naqvi Under Scrutiny Since Asia Cup 2025 Began

PCB and Asian Cricket Council chief Mohsin Naqvi faced intense scrutiny after the team’s poor performances and controversies surrounding the ICC.

Players from India and Pakistan avoided handshakes in the group stage and Super 4 match during the Asia Cup 2025 amid tensions following the military conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors in May.

The PCB requested the removal of match referee Andy Pycroft and threatened to boycott the tournament if he remained, but the ICC rejected their demand, forcing Pakistan to continue in the competition.

Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister, breached tournament protocols, including recording a video in a restricted zone. Pakistan are set to face Sri Lanka in a must-win match at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, September 23.
