South Africa captain Dean Elgar was the hero for the team as he stood like a rock during their chase of 240 runs at the Wanderers in Johannesburg as the hosts won the Test by 7 wickets and leveled the three-Test series 1-1. But Elgar also had a heated argument with India pacer Mohammed Siraj as he took the Proteas team towards the win.
The incident happened during the 65th over of the match when Mohammed Siraj was been hit to boundaries at will by Elgar. He pulled him for a four to the leg side on the first ball of the over and then hit him through the off-side for a four. Siraj then lost control a bit and bowled a short ball that went over the head of keeper Rishabh Pant for 5 wides.
However, things came to a head after Elgar had lofted Siraj over the slips for a four and as Elgar walked towards Temba Bavuma to touch gloves, Mohammed Siraj said something to the South African captain, who retorted back. Siraj was frustrated at giving away four boundaries in the over which basically hastened the end of the match.

South Africa Registers A Historic Maiden Test Win Over India At The Wanderers
Not only was this Test win important as South Africa leveled the three-Test series 1-1, but this was the first time since 1992, that the Proteas had beaten India at this venue of The Wanderers in Johannesburg. India had previously either won Test matches here or managed to play out draws, but this was their first loss at this venue.
Dean Elgar made 96*, while Rassie van der Dussen made 40 and Temba Bavuma contributed 23* to the chase of 240 runs and the South African captain was adjudged the Player of the Match for his contribution.
The two sides will now face off in Cape Town from January 11 with the series on the line. On the other hand, South Africa also pocketed crucial 12 points, their first of the ongoing 2021-23 cycle on the ICC Test World Championship Points table.
