IND vs AFG: "Pick Your Best Team" - Clive Llyod Bats For Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli's T20 WC Inclusion

West Indies legend Clive Lloyd batted for the inclusion of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. He believes that a team needs experience and youngsters alone cannot be there.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have become the hot topic in Indian cricket of late. They were out of action in T20Is for 14 long months and there were very less chances of the duo playing in the T20 World Cup 2024.

But in a drastic turn of events both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were back in the Indian squad in T20Is. They have been included in the team for the ongoing Afghanistan series and it has given quite a hint that the duo will play World Cup.

There also have been several media reports that have suggested that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will only make it into the T20 World Cup if they show good form in IPL. Various experts have opined on their selection and the latest to give his verdict on the same is Clive Lloyd.

Clive Lloyd said that India should pick their best team and they cannot rely on the youngsters alone. The legend added that Men in Blue will need experience in the tournament.

“You want to pick your best team, you can’t just fill the team with youthful players. You need experience,” Clive Lloyd said as quoted by PTI.

Clive Llyod further added that Virat Kohli is one of the best players in the world whereas Rohit Sharma is a terrific leader. He believes that India need to pick their best team with a combination of youth and experience. He added:

“Kohli is still one of the best players around. Rohit is quite good as captain. So you pick your best team. You will have some young players too, because you have so many cricketers here, and they are pushing the older players… and that’s how it should be. But I’m sure that you will have a very formidable side.”

Rohit Sharma didn’t have a great outing in his return to T20I return. He bagged a two-ball duck as he was run out and now would be hoping to make an impact in the remaining two games. Overall, as a leader, he was fantastic as he made brilliant bowling changes and helped the team win. He also recorded his 100th T20I win as a player.

Virat Kohli on the other hand missed the first game due to personal reasons. He will be joining the team for the second game in Indore. The duo would be hoping to set the stage on fire in the last two games and stake their claim back in the T20Is.

India won the first game by 6 wickets and took a 1-0 lead in the series. The second match will be played in Indore on 14th January. The hosts would be hoping to seal the series.
