Ashton Agar has suffered yet another injury setback and looks set to spend a few more weeks on the sidelines. The left-arm spinner has suffered a recurrence of the calf injury that ruled him out of the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

He has played just three international matches this year and only four competitive games since January. Ashton Agar returned to action during the ODI series in South Africa in September, just before the start of the World Cup. He played a key role in the first match before the calf injury ruled him out of the next two games.

After that, he returned home for the birth of his first child. He was expected to return to India for the World Cup but failed to recover in time. Middle-order batsman Marnus Labuschagne replaced him in the Australia squad. And the same injury has now sidelined him once again. As per ESPNCricinfo, he is also doubtful for the five-match T20I series against India that is scheduled to take place right after the World Cup.

Ashton Agar sidelined for lengthy period:

Ashton Agar was working on returning to action in November through the Marsh Cup and getting ready for the five-match series in India. However, the latest injury setback has delayed his comeback.

“Given Agar is a nationally contracted player, WA Cricket will work closely with Cricket Australia to determine his return to play,” a WACA statement said.

The 30-year-old now will be eyeing to recover in time for the start of the Big Bash League. The tournament is scheduled to get underway in December. He was a part of the Perth Scorchers’ side that won the league last year although he did not have the best of the outings. In 10 games, Ashton Agar had managed only 6 wickets. With the T20 World Cup to be played next year, he will be eyeing a strong campaign in the BBL.
