Sanju Samson has suffered yet another blow in his pursuit to get his international career back on track. The wicketkeeper-batsman made his debut for India way back in 2014 but is yet to cement his spot in the team.

The signs were quite promising in the last few months as he regularly got call-ups from the T20 and the ODI team. However, things have started going downhill once again after his failure to do well with the bat against West Indies a few weeks ago. Sanju Samson failed to make the cut for the Asia Cup and only made it to the team as a traveling reserve.

He could not even make it to the second-string Indian side for the Asian Games. And on Monday (September 18), he suffered yet another setback when the selection panel decided against including him in the India squad for the upcoming three-match series against Australia.

Captain Rohit Sharma as well as the likes of Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav have been rested for the first two games. With a number of key players rested for the first two games, Sanju Samson would have hoped to get a call-up. However, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel decided against it.

Irfan Pathan’s take on Sanju Samson getting ignored:

The Indian cricketing fraternity came up with some interesting reactions after Sanju Samson failed to make the cut for the Australia series. There were calls from several quarters of the fans for the batsman to change nationalities. A number of fans urged Sanju Samson to switch international teams in order to revive his career.

Amidst all these, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has made an interesting observation.

Taking to X, Pathan posted: “If I’m in place of @IamSanjuSamson right now I will be very disappointed….”

With India trying out the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rinku Singh in recent times, Sanju Samson could be set for a lengthy spell out of the Indian team. It would not be surprising at all if he does not play for the national team any time soon.
