Team India has suffered a huge blow to their chances of retaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. According to the reports, India captain Rohit Sharma is set to miss the first Test of the series against Australia, which will be held in Perth.
Rohit is an integral part of the Indian Test team. Not only is he the captain, but he is also an established opener and has a good record in the format in the last few years. His absence will be hard to fill for India, who will be aiming for a hat-trick of Test series wins in Australia later this year.

Rohit Sharma set to miss 1st Test vs Australia
According to the PTI, Rohit Sharma is currently dealing with a personal matter. Rohit has already informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding his situation but the board is yet to receive an official confirmation from him.
The first Test of the five-match Test series will be played at the Perth Stadium from November 22-26. Following that, the day-night Test will take place in Adelaide. It is believed that Rohit is likely to be available for the second Test.
But there is a chance that Rohit might be available for all five Tests of the series if the personal matter is solved before the series starts. The information was provided by a source from PTI.
"In case, the personal issue is sorted before the start of the series, he might play all five Tests. We will get to know more in coming days," a source was quoted as saying by PTI.
Rohit Sharma's recent form
Recently, Rohit Sharma led India to a comprehensive 2-0 Test series win over Bangladesh. However, his form with the bat wasn't great as he scored 42 runs in 4 innings at an average of 10.50. Having retired from the T20Is after the completion of the T20 World Cup 2024, he is currently on a break during the T20I series against Bangladesh.
His next assignment will be the three-match Test series against New Zealand, starting from October 16 in Bengaluru. Sharma will lead the team as India aims to strengthen its position in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table.
Rohit Sharma's role in Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Rohit Sharma is likely to play a vital role for India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. His ability to play the ball late can prove to be the key in Australian conditions.
Adding to this, the 37-year-old is a great player on bouncy pitches as he plays the short ball well. India expects him to provide good starts at the top which lays the foundation for the rest of the batters to follow.
In 7 Tests played in Australia, Rohit has scored 408 runs at an average of 31.38 with three half-centuries. The record does not look great but Rohit can raise his game when his team needs him the most. He can play impactful innings and can take the game away from the opposition.
