Indian batter Shreyas Iyer said that he is keen to make his comeback in the Test team following an impressive century during Mumbai's second Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match. Shreyas Iyer said that it’s a special feeling after reaching his first red-ball century since his Test debut nearly three years ago.

Shreyas Iyer's last first-class century came during the Kanpur Test against New Zealand in November 2021. Iyer scored 142 runs off 190 balls with the help of 12 fours and four sixes. The Mumbai team posted a total of 441 runs after bowling out Ruturaj Gaikwad's side for 126 runs in the first innings.

I Was Feeling A Bit Down With My Injuries - Shreyas Iyer

After scoring a 'special' century, Shreyas Iyer said that he is eager to return to the Test side. The middle-order batter said that he is fully recovered from his back injury and is 'absolutely keen for a comeback.'

"Coming back after a very long time, obviously I was feeling a bit down with my injuries, but now getting a century after a very long time, it's a great feeling," Iyer said, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.

"I am absolutely keen for a [Test] comeback but yeah, as we say, control the controllable and my job is to keep performing and keep participating as much as possible and also see with that my body is in the best shape. So I'll take the best decision possible according to that," he added.

Shreyas Iyer Dropped From BCCI's Central Contract List

Iyer was dropped from the BCCI's central contract list earlier this year. He last played for Team India in a Test match against England in February before being dropped. The right-handed batter last featured in the ODI series against Sri Lanka in August. He has played 127 international matches in his career.

The Mumbai batter also completed 6,000 first-class runs during his recent century. Iyer would be aiming to be included in the India squad for the upcoming series against Australia, starting in Perth on November 22. He will face competition from players like KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, and Dhruv Jurel for a spot.

I Had Addressed My Feeling - Shreyas Iyer

When asked whether his fitness struggles created a wrong notion about his suitability for Test cricket, Iyer said that things didn’t go his way at the time, but he has moved past it. He added that he has addressed his feelings in previous interviews and is now in a good mental space.

"See, I had addressed my feelings during the longer format and things didn't go my way, implying that he was willing to put it behind him. "But I've also addressed it in the previous interviews I've given and I'm in a good space right now."

"I'm doing what I'm meant to do, that is training and playing matches consistently and I feel that all the matches I've played right now in the past have helped me gain that fitness level as well, along with my training."
