Star Australia player, Steve Smith has recently suffered a wrist injury during the Ashes 2023 series against England. However, the Aussie player is hopeful to make a comeback on the crease in the upcoming India series and ODI World Cup 2023.
Steve Smith suffered a wrist injury during the second Test match of the Ashes 2023 at Lord’s. Following his injury he failed to make it into the first eleven and was also sidelined from the ongoing T20I and ODI series against South Africa.
In the initial days of his injury, Smith wore a splint but that failed to reduce the pain so the veteran Aussie player opted for the cortisone injection and later could take part in the net practice before the team flies to India for the upcoming three-match ODI series which will lead into the ODI World Cup 2023.
While speaking in a promotional event in Sydney, Steve Smith said that he waited for couple of weeks after his injury and limited his movement and then took the cortisone injection on last Thursday (September 14th).
According to the Aussie player, the injection made a big difference and helped him to recover from his wrist injury. Smith added that he had couple of batting sessions and everything felt normal now.
“I was in a brace for a couple of weeks, just trying to limit the movement, which once I got that off it hadn’t really made a big difference to be honest. Then I got a cortisone in it last Thursday, and that has made a big difference. So I’ve had a couple of sessions back batting now and it feels pretty normal,” Smith said.
I’ll do whatever the team needs: Steve Smith
The 34-year-old Aussie player termed the recovery from the wrist injury as ‘real positive’ after he could swing his bat in the net practice. Smith further added he will do whatever is best for the team in the upcoming series and ODI World Cup 2023.
“I inside-edged a couple of balls in the nets the other day and my bat turned sharp, and I was like ‘oh, that was hurting before’ and it wasn’t hurting anymore. So that’s a real positive, and I feel as though I can play all my shots and there’s no pain at all. I think I average 55 at three, or something like that, so it’s definitely my preferred spot. But I’ll do whatever the team needs. White-ball cricket, you’d love to bat as high as you can, so we’ll see what they want to do,” Steve Smith added.
India will take on Australia in the first ODI match of the three-game series on Friday (September 22nd) at Mohali Stadium in Chandigarh.
