India last played a T20I series against Ireland in August this year. During the away tour, India won the series 2-0 after winning the first two encounters. The third T20I was abandoned due to rain.

Australia’s last T20I series took place in August 2023 during an away tour. Australia grabbed a 3-0 whitewash in the three-match series, after winning all three games comfortably.

After the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, the focus will shift to the shortest format due to the forthcoming ICC T20I World Cup next year. Hence, many key players are expected to be part of the IND vs AUS T20I series.

Key Indian players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami, and Ravindra Jadeja among others were rested in T20Is in 2023 to give them rest for the ICC World Cup 2023. However, they might return to the shortest format during the IND vs AUS T20I series.
