Cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has said that Virat Kohli and Steve Smith are invaluable players for their respective teams in ODIs. Sanjay Manjrekar’s words arrived after some people alleged that it might be the last ODI World Cup for both Virat Kohli and Steve Smith.

Virat Kohli is currently 34 years old and will play his fourth ODI World Cup in ICC World Cup 2023. He is one of the greatest batsmen to ever play for India. Steve Smith, who is also 34 at the moment, is a crucial middle-order batsman for Australia.

Virat Kohli And Steve Smith Are Invaluable For Their Teams: Sanjay Manjrekar

While speaking on Star Sports, Sanjay Manjrekar shared his views on talks of the last World Cup for Kohli and Steve Smith. Manjrekar said that we should not say such things to players like Kohli and Smith.

“We should never say things like that with people like Virat Kohli and Steve Smith, because these are guys who love batting so much and are willing to put in the hard yards to keep batting forever and batting at a certain level,” Manjrekar said.

He also added that Kohli and Smith are invaluable for their sides in the ODI format.

“So, yes, Virat Kohli, 50 overs is his format. Steve Smith as well. Doesn’t fit perfectly in T20 cricket, but these are guys who are very good in that middle section when the game seems a little flat and boring. But this is the phase of the game that decides the fate of the game, and that’s where Steve Smith and Virat Kohli are invaluable for the side,” the former Indian players further added.

Meanwhile, Kohli and Steve Smith are set to play in the IND vs AUS match of the ICC World Cup 2023. Both teams will commence their journey in the World Cup on Sunday, October 8 against each other. The encounter takes place at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
