Former Sri Lankan player, Marvan Attapatu spoke on Rohit Sharma’s dismissal against the island country in the fourth Super Fours match of Asia Cup 2023 on Tuesday (September 12th) at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo and said that he felt very sorry for the India skipper and is out of words for him.
In the match, Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue went to bat first and gave a target of 214 runs. Rohit Sharma started off pretty well and scored 53 runs from 48 balls with a strike rate of 110.42. He was the only batsman who scored a half-century for India.
However, in the first inning, Dunith Wellalage’s five-wicket haul was the most memorable moment from it. Wellalage dismissed some crucial Indian batsmen, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Hardik Pandya.
In the second inning, the Sri Lanka batting lineup failed to chase the given target and lost the match by 41 runs. Dunith Wellalage and Dhananjaya de Silva tried hard to lead the team but failed to do it.
The former Sri Lanka player said that he felt sorry for the way Rohit Sharma got dismissed and said any batsman in the world would play the shot in the same way as the Indian skipper did.
“I am lost for words. I feel for him, feel very sorry for him. Any batsman around the world would have played the shot the same way,” Marvan Attapatu said on Star Sports.
The young man has bowled a length where Rohit Sharma was not ready to make a commitment: Sanjay Manjrekar
The former India player, Sanjay Manjrekar explained how Rohit Sharma got dismissed in the first inning and stated that the 36-year-old skipper was unlucky that the ball was low to get the stumps.
“Huge fan of the length. The young man has bowled a length where Rohit Sharma was not ready to make a commitment – neither on the front foot, neither on the back foot, and that’s when you want the ball to come easily off the pitch. Unfortunately for him, the ball kept low but you have got to credit the bowler than find faults with the batter,” Sanjay Manjrekar said.
In the sixth Super Fours match of Asia Cup 2023, India will take on Bangladesh on Friday (September 15th) at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
