Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) coach Jonty Rhodes revealed the true self of the India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma for the world to see during a recent interaction.
Rohit Sharma is regarded as one of the greatest Indian cricketers of all time, and he has done an exceptional job since becoming the full-time captain of the side.
He recently ended India's ICC trophy drought by leading the team to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 win. After the conclusion of the competition, he announced his retirement from T20Is but continues to lead the team in Test and ODI cricket.
Rohit's next goal would be to clinch a 50-over ICC trophy, with the ICC Champions Trophy around the corner, having missed out on the 50-over title when India faced a heartbreaking defeat against Australia at home in the ICC World Cup 2023.
Also, Rohit Sharma will have a chance to add the ICC World Test Championship title to his cabinet as the final of the competition is set to be played in June 2025 at Lord's. India are currently ranked No.1 in the ICC World Test Championship Points Table and with the big Test season coming up, India will have a great chance to qualify for the final.
I mean he hasn't changed at all it's so ridiculous you know - Jonty Rhodes on Rohit Sharma
Meanwhile, Jonty Rhodes, who worked with Rohit Sharma at Mumbai Indians, recently opened up about the India skipper. He said that Rohit Sharma doesn't have the best of the batting techniques, but he is so successful because he is always relaxed.
Jonty Rhodes also talked about Rohit Sharma's behavior towards his teammates, saying that he keeps messing around with the players and doesn't let the cricketers get stressed.
"I mean he hasn't changed at all it's so ridiculous you know. I just picture his walk when he walked out to bat and he would have a few throw-downs in the net or even shadow-hitting you know it was just majestic so he didn't practice as hard as such.
"Maybe he practised away from the nets at times, but just his technical ability and I think he doesn't always have the best technique. He's been criticized, not a lot of foot movement, but because he's so relaxed at the crease, his hands flow so well, and it's been great to see him because he stayed, you know, he stayed the same and he stayed true to himself" said Jonty Rhodes on Aleena Dissects youtube channel, as quoted by SportsTak.
“Rohit Sharma is still the same guy, he hasn't changed a bit, it's so ridiculous - messes around the teammates, funny guy & players don't feel stressed under his captaincy,” Jonty added.
A major shift may also happen in Rohit Sharma's IPL career as he is reportedly set to leave Mumbai Indians after being sacked from captaincy last season.
Notably, MI named Hardik Pandya as Rohit Sharma's successor and things didn't work out the way they would have imagined, as Mumbai Indians finished at the bottom in IPL 2024.
