Team India have received a huge boost ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 final. Their middle-order batsman and the designated number 4 returned to training on Thursday (September 14).

Shreyas Iyer’s participation in the remainder of the tournament looked doubtful after he suffered back spasms. The right-handed batsman has struggled with a number of back injuries in recent times and many believed that he would be sidelined once again after suffering the latest setback.

Shreyas Iyer recently made his much-awaited return to international cricket in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. Before that, he was sidelined since March after suffering a back injury during the Ahmedabad Test against Australia. In April, the batsman had to undergo a surgery before starting his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

His comeback, however, has not gone as he would liked so far. Shreyas Iyer could bat in only one match and appeared in one more before being sidelined with the back spasm. The middle-order batter made his comeback during the Group stage game against Pakistan and scored 14 before not getting a chance to bat against Nepal.

Shreyas Iyer returns to training:

And just before the Super 4 game against Pakistan, he experienced pain in his back and was ruled out of the game. Shreyas Iyer also missed the game against Sri Lanka earlier this week due to the same reason. He was replaced by KL Rahul in the playing eleven.

Recent reports suggested that Shreyas Iyer might also miss the remainder of the Asia Cup 2023 but the batsman has returned to training just in time. A day before India’s final Super 4 game against Bangladesh, the star batsman resumed training.

With Shreyas Iyer back, it would be interesting to see India’s playing eleven in the coming games. In his absence, KL Rahul batted at number four while Ishan Kishan batted at number five. And with both the players doing well with the bat, the team-management will definitely have a hard time making room for Iyer in the playing eleven.

Meanwhile, India will take on either Sri Lanka or Pakistan in the final of the Asia Cup 2023 on Sunday (September 17). After the Asia Cup, the Men in Blue will play a three-match ODI series against Australia at home before launching their World Cup campaign.
