In a recent development, Indian cricket team vice-captain Shubman Gill is expected to be rested for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. The selectors made the decision to rest Shubman Gill as part of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) workload management policy.

Apart from Gill, the selectors could rest additional players from the T20I series against Bangladesh, considering the Test series against New Zealand in October. India’s home season will start with a two-match Test series against Bangladesh, followed by three T20Is against the same opponent.

Shubman Gill Set To Be Rested For Bangladesh Series - Report

As per a report by PTI, Shubman Gill will be rested for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh. The report added that there is only a three-day gap between the T20I series and the first Test match against New Zealand. As a result, the BCCI decided to give Gill a break from the Bangladesh T20Is.

"Yes, Shubman will be rested for the Bangladesh T20I series. If you look at the fixture, the three T20Is will be played on October 7 (Gwalior), 10 (Delhi) and 13 (Hyderabad). Now first Test vs New Zealand starts October 16."

"So with a turnaround of three days, it is important to give Gill a break," a BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

Shubman Gill has played 21 T20Is for the India national cricket team. The right-handed batter scored 578 runs at an average of 30.42 and a strike rate close to 140, including a century and three fifties. He recently led the Men in Blue in a five-match series against Zimbabwe, which India won 4-1.

The young batter recently captained India A in the Duleep Trophy 2024. Following the Test series against New Zealand, the BCCI will send their A team to South Africa for a T20 series from November 8 to 15. Gill is confirmed to travel to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar series starting November 22.

Rishabh Pant To Be Rested For Bangladesh T20I Matches?

The Indian cricket team's current focus is on the World Test Championship (WTC). T20I matches are less important for the national team at the moment. ODI matches are also important due to the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, which is scheduled to be played in February-March next year.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja retired from T20Is, and pace bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are set to rest. It will be interesting to see whether wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will be included in the shorter format of the game, considering his management.

The Test series will begin on Thursday, September 19, at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, with the second Test set to start on September 27 at Green Park in Kanpur.
