Veteran legspinner Piyush Chawla has picked the next Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma of Indian cricket. Chawla reckoned that Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad will be the next two big things coming out of India.

During his podcast, Chawla also spoke about the captaincy styles of MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. Piyush Chawla has played under the leadership of both these captains in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Piyush Chawla picks the next Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma of Indian cricket

During a podcast with Shubhankar Mishra's YouTube channel, Piyush Chawla picked Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad as the next two big things in Indian cricket.

Chawla reckoned that Gill's good technique helps him bounce back from tough times while Gaikwad has looked a class apart whenever he comes out to bat.

"Shubman Gill. Because he has a good technique. If a batter goes through bad form but has a good technique, he can bounce back quickly. If a batter has a good technique, he cannot stay away from good form for a long time. So, Shubman Gill, for sure," Chawla said.

"Ruturaj Gaikwad. That is a part and parcel of the game (on getting dropped after good performances). That won't stop. But whenever he gets an opportunity, he looks like a different batter every time. So, these two players are special for me," he added.

Both Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad are in India's scheme of things at the moment. While Gill is an all-format player, Gaikwad has played just ODIs and T20Is so far. In the coming time, both are likely to win crucial matches for India.

Are Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad unlucky?

Chawla was also asked about who is more unlucky among Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad. He feels that the selectors do not see Samson as a red-ball player, which can be the reason why he is not selected in the ongoing Duleep Trophy.

"It's a tough one. I won't say unlucky because it all depends on the team combination. It was really surprising for me as well (Sanju Samson not being in the Duleep Trophy). Maybe the selectors don't see him as a red-ball player. Sanju Samson is a brilliant player. One of the best keeper-batsmen around. But if he is not in selectors' red-ball scheme of things, then it's fine," Chawla added.

Difference between MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma

When asked about the difference in captaincy styles of MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, Chawla replied that both are calm characters which makes them so efficient.

He further added that the captaincy styles of Dhoni and Rohit are the main reasons why CSK and MI are the most successful teams in IPL history.

"No doubt, he (Rohit Sharma) is (close to MS Dhoni in terms of captaincy). If you see, both are calm characters. They do not panic easily. The job of a captain is to move the game forward. Sometimes, the pace of the game is too much and you need to slow it down," Chawla noted.

"Sometimes, things are going your way and you go through the over quickly. The way these two captains run their teams, this is the reason why these franchises (MI and CSK) are most successful. You can't compare both because both are different. You can't say that Dhoni is better and Rohit is not, and vice versa. So, that will be unfair," the legspinner added.

Both MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma have won five IPL titles for their respective IPL teams, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. Both of them are the joint-most successful captains in the history of IPL.
