Former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan was highly impressed with the way the Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah bowled in the first innings against England as he picked up four wickets. Bumrah opened the bowling for India and got rid of England’s in-form Rory Burns with a terrific inswinger.
He set up the left-hander with four outswingers and bowled an excellent inswinger in the fifth delivery to completely deceive the batsmen. He added on with three crucial wickets after that and finished with an outstanding spell of four wickets for 46 runs in his 20 over-spell. He cleaned the tail too with vicious yorkers towards the end of the innings.
Zaheer Khan Heaps Praise On Bumrah
Zaheer Khan mentioned that Bumrah was spot in with the responsibilities he was assigned and wanted the management not to be worried about his economy rate and rather use him to be the strike bowler. He added that he liked Bumrah’s aggressive approach from the outset and added that Buttler’s wicket was a big moment in the game.
“Jasprit Bumrah ticked the box of an opening bowler by picking a wicket in the first over. Bumrah is a strike bowler so you shouldn’t think about his economy rate. If he picks wickets, then the team will have a huge advantage in it. The way he approached his bowling has been sensational.”
“Buttler’s wicket was a crucial element because he is a dangerous batsman who scores runs at a quick pace. So it was an important phase in which Bumrah took his wicket,” Zaheer reckoned.
Zaheer Khan Emphasises On Bumrah’s Yorkers
Zaheer Khan particularly stressed about the Bumrah ensuring that the lower order did not take the game away from India. There was a small partnership building between Sam Curran and James Anderson at the end of 23 runs and Bumrah needed to hit his yorkers really well in the end.
“Bumrah’s yorkers ensured that the lower order didn’t contribute too many runs. Sam Curran was looking in a good mood and was looking to keep the strike. But the wickets ensured that the innings didn’t go on for a longer time and ended it brilliantly,” Zaheer concluded.
Zaheer Khan was one of the best-left arm bowlers the world has ever seen and he played 90 Tests for India.
