Former England Pacer Gives Special Advice To His Team Revealing How They Will Win The Test Series vs India
India and England will face each other in a five-match Test series commencing on January 25. Former England pacer Steven Finn has his hopes high that England will perform well in the upcoming Test series against India. He was a part of the 2012 England squad that toured India and won the Test series under Alastair Cook. Steven Finn offered a bit of special advice to the England team and that was to win over the Indian crowd to up their chances of winning the Test series.
The English squad will be landing on Indian soil on January 21, Sunday to face the hosts in a five-match Test series and fulfill their quest to win a Test series on Indian soil. The Ben Stokes-led team will embark on a red-ball cricketing safari, starting January 25 in Hyderabad. It will be a huge Test for a team who have always struggled with the bat on the rank-turners in India.
Steven Finn, who was part of England’s squad in their series win in 2012, feels that the team would need to woo the Indian crowd. He wants the team to use their popularity and gain some advantage of the IPL stardom, especially for household names like Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, and Mark Wood. These players can get some support from the crowd which will be a morale booster for any visiting team and will help the team in performing with more enthusiasm.
“I think the IPL superstardom of some of the players will count to England’s benefit,” says Finn. “Kevin Pietersen aside, that 2012 team, people weren’t really superstars in India, whereas you have quite a few guys this time going over who have played in the IPL and are superstars in that. I think that will count,” Finn said on ESPN Cricinfo.
Steven Finn Feels Brendon McCullum And Ben Stokes At The Helm Of England Will Help With The Fans
Steven Finn recalled the memorable wins in the away tours that he had been a part of for the English squad and said that winning the crowd’s heart and turning them against the opponent is the best thing one can do to win a game in away conditions. He also pointed out that Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes, two of the IPL stalwarts at the helm will help the England team in getting some support from the crowd.
“The three most memorable tours I went on, India 2012, Australia 2010-11 and South Africa 2016, all three of them, one of the motivations for us was to try and get the opposition public on side and turn them against their own team. That’s a huge benefit to you, and having Stokes and McCullum at the helm allows England to do that,” Finn said.
England has not lost a single Test Series since Brendon McCullum was appointed as England’s head coach and they will hope to carry on with this unbeatable streak in India. However, the rank turners may not support the Bazball style of cricket that England has been following since the appointment of McCullum. India has not lost a Test series at home in the last twelve years and they are ready to defend their streak too.
