An NCA (National Cricket Academy) coach has revealed how Jasprit Bumrah has remodelled his bowling action after his comeback to the national team. The NCA coach explained that Jasprit Bumrah has increased his run-up by 2-3 strides after his comeback.
Jasprit Bumrah recently returned to the national team in the ongoing IND vs IRE T20I series. The right-arm pacer was out of the field for almost 11 months. The 29-year-old played for India in September 2022 last year.
Later, he suffered a back injury due to which he was ruled out of the field. He tried making a comeback several times but was ruled out due to the back issue. Earlier this year, the Indian pacer underwent back surgery in New Zealand. Later, he recovered at National Cricket Academy to make a stunning comeback in IND vs IRE T20I series.
Jasprit Bumrah Has Increased His Run-Up By 2-3 Strides- NCA Coach
During a conversation with PTI, a level-III certified NCA coach explained how Jasprit Bumrah has made several changes to his bowling action after his comeback. The coach revealed that Bumrah now has a longer follow through in his action.
“Prior to his stress fracture breakdown, if you closely watch Bumrah’s bowling videos, he would first briskly walk six to seven steps and then load up at the bowling crease on his seventh stride to unleash his thunderbolts”.
“While watching him bowl against Ireland, one could witness that he has increased his run-up by 2-3 strides with a bigger follow through compared to earlier times. It’s not a massive revamp of his action but a slight bit of remodelling in order to stay injury free for a long time,” the coach said.

Longer Run-Up Means More Momentum For Jasprit Bumrah
The NCA coach also revealed that the longer run-up will help Bumrah increase his momentum while bowling.
“The big question: What is the need for a longer run up? It is all about having an increased momentum which is a must for tearaway quick bowlers. Boom was earlier like a fighter jet”.
“Even shorter run-up after a few rapid walking strides meant that entire pace that he generated came from the thrust provided by his shoulder and back. The injury was bound to happen because his run-up hardly gave him any momentum”, added the coach.

Jasprit Bumrah made a fabulous comeback in IND vs IRE 1st T20I on Friday (August 18). He hunted 2 wickets in his first over itself and ended with 2-24 in his 4-over spell. He also won the player of the match award for his astonishing bowling spell in the match, which India won by 2 runs by DLS method.
Meanwhile, Bumrah is also the captain of Team India in IND vs IRE T20I series. IND vs IRE 2nd T20I takes place on Sunday (August 20) at The Village Stadium in Dublin.
