Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh believes that the current Indian team has all the makings to become champions at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Yuvraj Singh, who is one of the brand ambassadors of the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies, made this claim during a recent event in the States. The 2007 T20 World Cup winner has been very vocal about the Indian team's chances this year and has not shied away from claiming that India will become World Champions in T20 cricket.

Rohit Sharma's men started off their campaign yesterday as they defeated Bangladesh in their only warm-up game before the Group stages. The positives from the match were Rishabh Pant's half-century upon his return, Rohit's aggressive start, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya's arrival of form, and the entire bowling line-up's performance.

India had set up a target of 183 for Bangladesh but the latter team was restricted to 122 with the inaugural champions winning by 60 runs.

Yuvraj Singh wants the Indian team to play on their strength

While speaking at the event, Yuvraj Singh expressed what he wants the Indian team to do if they are to repeat the 2007 heroics. Yuvraj Singh claimed that the current team under Rohit Sharma is full of confidence and that they have the belief of winning big tournaments like this one.

Yuvraj Singh has a strong belief that if the team can back themselves and is able to play on their strengths, then they can go all the way.

"I believe we have the self-belief of winning big tournaments. I think if India believes and backs themselves and play to their own strengths, I'm sure they'll go all the way. And that's what I believe in," Yuvraj said as quoted by PTI.

Yuvraj Singh then admitted that it was because of that self-belief that the Indian team under MS Dhoni was able to become the inaugural T20 WC champions. He said that the team's focus was on their own strengths and the things they should be doing themselves instead of wondering about what the opposition was going to do.

"I think that's the reason why we won. We focused on where, how we are good and the things that we need to do rather than thinking of where the opposition is going to harm us. We have the match winners," Yuvraj Singh added.

Yuvraj Singh backs Virat Kohli to finish as the highest run-getter and wants to see Rishabh Pant's comeback

Yuvraj Singh was then asked about the one player he is looking forward to playing in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The former all-rounder claimed that he is eager to see the return of Rishabh Pant, who scored a half-century yesterday, in National team colors.

Yuvi also stated that he considers Virat Kohli as the one who will end up as the highest run-getter of the World Cup.

"I would say Rishabh Pant. I am looking forward to the return of Rishabh, he is coming back from a massive injury. And leading run-getter seems like Virat Kohli, he's had a very good IPL," Yuvraj Singh concluded.
