Ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah is set to make his international return in the three-match T20 series against Ireland starting on August 18. Jasprit Bumrah regained his full fitness and bowled against Mumbai batters on Friday at the Alur Cricket Ground in Bengaluru.
Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action since September last year after suffering a stress fracture in his back. The right-arm pacer underwent surgery for his back earlier this year. Bumrah is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
Jasprit Bumrah And Prasidh Krishna Progressing Well
Jasprit Bumrah displayed a promising performance, bowling 10 overs in two spells during an intra-squad practice match against Mumbai’s young batters. This marked his first bowling action in nearly 10 months. He picked up one wicket and conceded 34 runs in his bowling quota.
The 29-year-old made a comeback by picking up the wicket of opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi in the practice game. Prasidh Krishna, who is also recovering from his injury, returned to action on Saturday and bowled against Mumbai batters, picking up one wicket in his 10-over quota.
The BCCI released a medical report on July 21, mentioning that Bumrah and Krishna will undergo practice games before making a comeback into the national squad.
“The two fast bowlers are in the final stages of their rehab and are bowling with full intensity in the nets. The duo will now play some practice games, which the NCA will organise. The BCCI Medical Team is pleased with their progress and will make a final decision after assessing them following the practice games.”
Don’t Know Whether He Will Play – Rohit Sharma
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the first ODI against the West Indies, Indian captain Rohit Sharma expressed uncertainty about Jasprit Bumrah’s presence in the Ireland T20I series.
“He (Bumrah) has loads of experience and that experience will be crucial for us. He is coming back from a long injury and I don’t know whether he will play in the Ireland T20Is. But we will try to give him as much game time as possible before the World Cup.”
The Men in Blue will take on Ireland in a three-match T20I series in Dublin from August 18-23. The selectors are likely to test youngsters in the series in the shorter format.
