IND vs IRE: No impact of ISIS threat as India cricketers enjoy their time in New York

Team India are currently in the United States of America for the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The marquee event is being co-hosted by the USA and West Indies.

As India gear up to begin their campaign in the T20 World Cup, their security has become a major talking point. Earlier this week, ISIS-K, a pro-Islamic State group, issued a threat for the high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan next week. A poster of the threat has been doing the rounds on social media. The poster features the date of the India vs Pakistan match alongside the Nassau Stadium name.

However, the threat has not affected the movement of Indian players in and around New York. The players and other members of the team have been moving freely in New York. Photos of the players enjoying meals outdoors and exploring the city have been doing the rounds on social media. Fortunately, the players have not faced any safety issues so far. According to a report in News18, the team has not received any directive from the security agencies as well.

"No directive has been issued to the players and they can normally roam about in New York. Security has been brilliant ever since the team has landed and it was excellent during the warm-up game too," a source told the news outlet.

There was a security breach though when India were playing the warm-up game against Bangladesh in New York on Saturday (June 1). As the Indian team was fielding, a fan invaded the pitch to meet Rohit Sharma but was swiftly captured by the security officials and was taken out of the field.

India eye World Cup title:

Meanwhile, Team India are drawn in Group A along with Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, and co-hosts USA. The Men in Blue will begin their campaign in the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup on June 5 against Ireland before taking on arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9.

On June 12, India will be locking horns against the USA before taking on Canada in their final group game on June 15. India will be playing their first three group games in New York while the last game is scheduled to take place in Florida.

India are one of the strongest contenders for the T20 World Cup this year and will be desperate to go all the way to end their long wait for a World Cup trophy. India have not won the T20 World Cup since winning the inaugural edition in 2007 and they have not won any ICC trophy since 2013.
