Former Australia seamer Glenn McGrath believes that the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies is going to be a massive test for team India.

The Men in Blue, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, will begin their World Cup campaign tomorrow at the Nassau County Stadium against Ireland. India will be attempting to win their first ICC silverware since the Champions Trophy triumph in 2013. In the T20 World Cups since 2007, the Indians have reached the finale only once back in 2014 when Sri Lanka clinched their first title.

The T20 WC this year is also very important because it will be head coach Rahul Dravid's final assignment with the Indian team. Dravid and his entourage's contract was extended for 6 more months following the team's loss in the 50-Over World Cup.

The new head coach is expected to take over from July 2024 until the next ODI World Cup in 2027 in South Africa.

What did Glenn McGrath say about India's chances?

Glenn McGrath was in a conversation with the Times of India recently and therein he spoke about India's chances at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The former Aussie seamer feels that this edition is going to be a very big test for Rohit Sharma's men after a dominating display during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on home soil.

McGrath recognized India's fantastic performance at the 50-over WC but he also stated that the challenge is going to be very different in the T20 WC. "It is going to be a big test for India. I know one-day cricket is different, but India showed in the ODI World Cup how dominant they can be." - Glenn McGrath told Times of India.

The 3-time WC winner then shed light on his own country's chances at the WC. Glenn McGrath made it clear that if the Aussies are to win their 2nd T20 WC title, then Mitchell Starc is going to be the key and his performances will decide how far Australia can go. McGrath also mentioned Starc's teammate Travis Head as the batter who can make a lot of difference.

"Australia have a quality bowling attack, Mitchell Starc is key. If Australia are to win this World Cup, Starc has to bowl well. We saw what Travis Head can do when he is on fire." - McGrath added

The Australian legend says he has no idea about Pakistan's chances

The 54-year-old then spoke about the other teams in the competition and how he feels about them when he sees their game. McGrath started with the West Indies and said that he likes them because they play their cricket with fun and in a fearless manner. About Pakistan, the legend of the game only used three words.

Last but not least, Glenn McGrath said that New Zealand is also a good team in this World Cup. The biggest prediction, though, McGrath made was that he thinks there is no team in the competition that can go undefeated.

"I like the West Indies because they play without fear and have fun. Pakistan, you never know. New Zealand is a good team. I do not think there is going to be a side that will go undefeated. It is just the nature of the format." - Glenn McGrath concluded.
