On Thursday, August 17, Sussex announced the signing of the seasoned India National Cricket Team left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat for the County Championship matches in September.

This will be his first stint in the County Championship and he will join his India and Saurashtra teammate Cheteshwar Pujara at Sussex. Also, Jaydev Unadkat signing with the team hints that he is not in contention for selection in India’s Asia Cup and World Cup squads.

He will be available for selection for Sussex for the first three County Championship matches in September against Durham, Leicestershire, and Derbyshire. However, he might miss his side’s final fixture if he decides to return home for Irani Cup, which starts October 1.

In an official statement issued by Sussex, Jaydev Unadkat said that he is delighted to get signed by Sussex for County Championship and expressed excitement over playing for the team alongside his India teammate Cheteshwar Pujara.

“I am excited to join Sussex for their Championship games in September. I have been following the team’s recent run of success and I had a nice conversation with Paul and it looks like I can definitely add value and contribute towards the team’s goals.

“The English County Championship has a wonderful legacy, and I was keen to grab the opportunity whenever I can and it seems to be the right time for me at this point in my career.

“I hope to add to the laurels that my dear friend & team-mate, Cheteshwar has been adding aplenty while representing Sussex for the last couple of seasons, and more importantly helping the team win games. I am looking forward to joining everyone at Sussex.”
