IND vs IRE: VVS Laxman To Be Coach On Ireland Tour, KL Rahul Ruled Out Of Asia Cup 2023 - Reports

Legendary batter VVS Laxman will replace Rahul Dravid as head coach of the India National Cricket Team for the upcoming Ireland tour, according to the reports in Cricbuzz. Also, star batter KL Rahul has been ruled out of the Asia Cup 2023.

Team India are set to tour Ireland for a short three-match T20I series. The matches are scheduled to be held at the Malahide in Dublin on August 18, 20 and 23.

Reportedly, Rahul Dravid-led coaching staff that consists of batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey and fielding coach T Dilip will be rested for the Ireland tour.

The decision to rest the coaching staff has been made keeping in mind the jam-packed schedule where the mega events in Asia Cup 2023, Asian Games 2023, and World Cup 2023 are set to be played.

The National Cricket Academy head VVS Laxman will serve as India’s coach on the Ireland tour and he will be joined by his coaching staff from NCA. He will lead the staff with the batting and bowling coaches, selected among Sitanshu Kotak and Hrishikesh Kanitkar (batting) and Troy Cooley and Sairaj Bahutule (bowling).

Notably, last year also VVS Laxman was India’s head coach on the Ireland tour. Just like last year, Hardik Pandya will most likely lead the Indian team in the T20I series.

Jasprit Bumrah To Return In Ireland T20Is, KL Rahul Ruled Out Of Asia Cup

According to the same reports in Cricbuzz, Jasprit Bumrah is expected to make his blockbuster comeback in the upcoming T20I series against Ireland. Reportedly he has started bowling full throttle in the nets and is on the verge of regaining full fitness.

Also, some reports had suggested that the middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer will also make his return in the Ireland T20Is, but according to the latest reports, there is still a question mark over his availability.

Meanwhile, star batter KL Rahul, who has been part of India’s leadership group for a long period, has been ruled out of the Asia Cup 2023.

Rahul had suffered a thigh injury while fielding in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 game between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore. His injury was serious and he was ruled out of the entire IPL season as well as the ICC World Test Championship Final.

KL Rahul underwent successful surgery on his right thigh and is currently undergoing rehab at the NCA. He has not yet started batting and will most likely miss out on the Asia Cup 2023.

Asia Cup 2023 is set to be played in a hybrid model where Pakistan will host 4 games while Sri Lanka will host 9 games. The marquee tournament is set to be played from August 31 to September 17.
