Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria slammed Indian batter Sanju Samson for not making the most of the opportunities he got in the T20I series against West Indies. He said that if the keeper-batter gets out of the team for a long time now, it’ll be his fault.
For a long BCCI has been criticized a lot for not giving opportunities to Sanju Samson. However, in the recently concluded white-ball series against West Indies, the keeper-batter regularly featured in the Indian XI and was given first preference.
Sanju Samson played the last two ODIs, failing in the second game but smashed a brutal half-century in the last match. However, in the five-match T20I series, he was an utter disappointment and couldn’t grab the opportunities that came his way as he perished for low totals in all three innings he played.
Sanju Samson mustered just 32 runs in three innings and his poor outings were one of the main reasons the Indian team didn’t get big finishes. He even had opportunities to finish the game but he perished early and made the case worse for him.
Danish Kaneria pointed out how Samson failed to grab the opportunities and selectors shouldn’t be blamed now as it was his fault. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he explained:
“Sorry to say, but you had enough chances in this series, but you weren’t able to deliver. This is his own fault. The selectors or anyone else shouldn’t be blamed, it was completely his fault. Sanju Samson should blame himself if he remains out of the team for a long time now.”
IND vs IRE: You cannot play Mukesh Kumar – Danish Kaneria
Danish Kaneria further went on to highlight that there’s no need for India to play Mukesh Kumar because Hardik Pandya is a similar sort of bowler. He added that team management should’ve given Umran Malik the opportunity to play. He elaborated:
“With Hardik Pandya there, you cannot play Mukesh Kumar, as both of them have a similar pace. Umran Malik bowls very fast, but is wayward. Wouldn’t it have been better if India tried out Umran by playing him in all matches in this series? It would have increased his confidence.”
The Indian team will be next seen in action when they will tour Ireland for the three-match series, beginning on 18th August.
