Indian veteran batsman Robin Uthappa heaped praises on Suryakumar Yadav’s versatility and reckoned that he should bat at number 4-5 to support Rishabh Pant to finish games. Suryakumar Yadav made sure that India managed to get over the line with a brilliant knock of 62 off 40 balls in the first T20 international against New Zealand.
India lost the wicket of KL Rahul inside the powerplay, and Suryakumar stitched a good partnership with his IPL skipper Rohit Sharma. However, in the end, India did face some hiccups after Suryakumar’s wicket, and that will be one of the concerns going forward for India despite the win in the end.
Robin Uthappa Impressed With Suryakumar Yadav’s Array Of Shots
Robin Uthappa mentioned that Suryakumar Yadav could bat anywhere in the batting order and reckoned that the latter had gotten many shots in his armoury. He added that Rishabh Pant needs some support while finishing games and wanted Suryakumar to bat a little bit down the order.
“The guy brings in a sense of versatility. He can move up and down the batting order. Surya gets in there and gets going. The array of shots that he has got makes him a dangerous batter at any position. He can bat at 4-5, so that Pant has got some support to finish games,” Robin Uthappa told on ESPN Cricinfo.
“He Could Be The Guy To Bat 4-5 To Complement” – Daniel Vettori
Daniel Vettori noted that the Suryakumar Yadav would be apt to bat at number 4 or 5 when Virat Kohli returns to the side. He also hailed Suryakumar for being confident right from the outset.
“With the kind of performances he has come up with, Suryakumar has set himself aside from the rest of the pack. He could be the guy to bat 4-5 to complement the Top 3. He is confident from the time he goes out to bat, and it just suits T20 cricket,” Daniel Vettori reckoned.
