India bowled out New Zealand for just 108 in the second ODI in 34.3 overs. This is one of their lowest totals against the Indian team. New Zealand have never won an ODI series against India in India and a loss in the second ODI meant that they lost yet another ODI series.

Rohit Sharma used six bowlers and all of them got wickets with Mohammed Shami picking up three wickets and Hardik Pandya and Washington Sundar picking up two each. Eight Kiwi batters were dismissed in single-digit scores in Raipur’s  Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium which hosted its first-ever international game. It was India’s 50th venue that hosted a men’s ODI in India.

Earlier in the game, there was a lot of drama at the toss with Rohit Sharma forgetting what he wanted to do after he won the toss. Eventually, he gathered himself and opted to field first, a decision that turned out to be wise.  Meanwhile, in this article, we take a look at the lowest totals of opposition when India had their opponents five down for nothing.

The Kiwis after being put into bat lost wickets at regular intervals in the first 10 overs. Mohammed Shami picked up the first wicket of Fin Allen (0) in the very first over. That started the procession with all the top five Kiwi batters dismissed for single-digit scores.

Shami took two and Hardik, Siraj and Shadul took one each to dismantle the Kiwi top-order. The batters failed to judge the pace and the bounce of the wicket and eventually played rash shots to get out. The bowling from Indian bowlers were on target.

This match was a part of the 1997 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. Team India had their arch-rivals 29/5 in 9 overs before rain interrupted the game and no more match was possible. Those were the days when Pakistan still had the upper hand against India but this was a match that was dominated by the Indian team. Among the five wickets to fall, Venkatesh Prasad took four and Abey Kuruvilla took one.

4) 30 – vs ZIM at Harare, 2005

After the top-order faltered, the Indian middle order helped the side reach 226/5 with Mohammed Kaif scoring 65. Yuvraj Singh scored 53 and a young MS Dhoni scored 56. Irfan Pathan then bowled a brilliant spell as he took 5/27 with Zimbabwe being bowled out for just 65. Ajit Agarkar took 4/18 as India won the game by 161 runs.
