Rohit Sharma gave a massive injury scare to India National Cricket Team as he hurt his finger while trying to stop the ball on the field during the 21st match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Tom Latham-led New Zealand National Cricket Team at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday, October 22.

India won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match considering the dew factor in the second innings. They were forced to make two changes to their playing XI after all-rounder Hardik Pandya got ruled out of the match due to an ankle injury.

Mohammed Shami and Suryakumar Yadav came in as replacements for Shardul Thakur and Hardik Pandya. The BlackCaps, on the other hand, fielded an unchanged playing XI.

Meanwhile, India were off to a good start in the match as they removed two Kiwi batters inside 10 overs to set the stage on fire. However, the Men In Blue were handed a major blow when captain Rohit Sharma hurt his finger and was forced to leave the field.

In a clip that has gone viral on social media, Rohit Sharma has been seen sliding to stop the ball and in the process, his finger got rubbed on the outfield and he got hurt.

Indian captain looked disappointed after hurting his finger and he was taken back to the pavilion for treatment. In Rohit’s absence, KL Rahul assumed the role of leading the team.

Thankfully, Rohit Sharma’s injury was not a serious one as he returned to the field in the 13th over and took over the captaincy.

Speaking at the toss, Rohit Sharma said that Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium is a great place to play cricket and they are looking forward to it.

“We’ll bowl first. No reason, we were here training yesterday and felt a bit of dew comes in. Looks like a good pitch, we’ll back ourselves to chase. Quite important to keep the momentum going, forget what happened in the past,” Rohit Sharma said.

“Need to be at it all the time. This is one place everyone wants to come and play, beautiful weather and nice stadium. Hardik isn’t available, so does Shardul. We’ve got Shami and Surya.”
