Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has registered a forgettable record after his team's defeat to the United States in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He has become the first-ever captain in international cricket to lose against four weaker teams in international cricket.

Pakistan lost to the United States in their opening game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 which can be termed as the biggest turnaround in the tournament. Pakistan failed to defend the 160-run target against the USA in the match, and the latter eventually won the clash in the super over.

Batting first, Pakistan failed to set up a powerful total against co-hosts United States. Babar Azam with his 44 and Shadab Khan with his 40 runs were the only ones to come up with decent knocks as all batters failed to smack even fifties.

Chasing 159, US batters attacked from the front with opener opener Monank Patel adding 50 off 38. Later, Andries Gous and Aaron Jones hit 35 and 36 to help the team draw the game. In the end, the USA outplayed Pakistan in the super over to script history.

Babar Azam becomes first-ever captain to lose against USA, ZIM, AFG, IRE

Every big upset in cricket also leads to many unwanted records. Babar Azam has attained such a record after his team's defeat to Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He has become the first-ever captain to lose games to Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Ireland, and the USA in international cricket.

Notably, Pakistan lost to Afghanistan in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 last year. Earlier, they also lost to Zimbabwe in ICC T20 World Cup 2022. During a recent tour to Ireland last month, Pakistan lost a T20I match. In all these games, Babar Azam was the skipper of Pakistan.

Interestingly, Babar Azam stepped down as a skipper after Pakistan's poor show in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 last year, where they lost to Afghanistan for the first time in an ODI. The board also appointed a new skipper Shaheen Afridi in T20Is and Shan Masood in Tests.

However, after Pakistan's humiliating defeat to New Zealand 4-1 under Afridi and no other powerful option for ODI skipper, Babar was reinstalled as the team’s skipper in white-ball formats.

Pakistan to face India in their next match in ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Meanwhile, Pakistan needs to buckle up their performance in the forthcoming games in ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Pakistan is a member of Group A in the tournament with India, the United States, Canada, and Ireland.

All these teams will face each other once during the league stage. The top two teams in the points table will reach the next round. However, the USA has already defeated Canada and Pakistan. If they also hamper Ireland and Pakistan fails to defeat India in the next game, the USA will have a better chance to finish in the top two.

Pakistan will next face India on June 9, Canada on June 11, and Ireland on June 16. Currently, the USA takes the top spot in the Group A points table with 4 points. India follows them with 2 points with a victory against Ireland in their first match.
