Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers feels that Babar Azam is a huge rock in Pakistan’s batting order. De Villiers also said that India needs to dismiss him early if they need to keep Pakistan quiet.

India and Pakistan are set to wrestle with each other in the Asia Cup 2023. IND vs PAK encounter takes place on September 2 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka.

Talking about IND vs PAK match on his YouTube channel, former South Africa stalwart AB de Villiers said that Babar Azam is a huge rock in Pakistan’s batting order. He also added that Azam acts as a glue in the middle-order for Pakistan.

“I love talking about Babar Azam because he is one of the best players we have ever seen play this game and not just now. He is a huge rock in the Pakistan batting order.

If India wants to keep Pakistan quiet, this is the guy to dismiss early because he keeps the batting line-ups together and acts as glue in the Pakistan middle-order,” De Villiers said.

AB de Villiers also revealed that when he met Babar Azam for the first time, he realised that he was an emerging player. De Villiers also added that Pakistan need him in good form to excel in Asia Cup and World Cup.

“I met him first when he [Babar] was very young but quickly realized that this guy is here to stay. He has hurt bowling attacks all around the world and in all formats.

“He is a fantastic player and Pakistan need him in form for the Asia Cup and most importantly, for the World Cup,” the former wicketkeeper-batter further said.

Recently in the opening game against Nepal, Azam slammed a stunning century. With 151 runs in the match, he led the team to a huge victory by 238 runs to win the player of the match award.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has also revealed their playing XI for the IND vs PAK clash of Asia Cup 2023. India has not announced their playing XI and will reveal it during the toss.
