Pakistan skipper Babar Azam believes that the future of his captaincy won’t be determined by the outcome of the India-Pakistan match in the ICC World Cup 2023. Babar Azam also expressed his hope to end India’s winning streak against Pakistan in ODI World Cups.
The Babar Azam-led team will face the Rohit Sharma-led team in the third match of the tournament at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, October 14. The Men in Green are eager to secure their first win against India in 50-over World Cup history.
I Will Get What I Deserve – Babar Azam
Speaking at the press conference ahead of the match against India, Babar Azam emphasized that he didn’t become captain of the national team solely for this game.
“Mai iss cheej pr kabhi vo nahi karta ki iss match ki wajeh se meri kaptaani chali jayegi. Allah ne jitna mere liye likhi hai utna mai karunga. Jitna mera Allah par believe hai, utni mujhe milegi. Mujhe ek match ki wajeh se kaptaani mili nahi hai, ya ek match ki wajeh se meri jayegi nahi,” Babar told reporters.
(I never worry that because of this match, I will lose my captaincy. Whatever God has written for me, I will play. I will get what I deserve. I didn’t get the captaincy because of a match, and I will not lose it because of a match).
The Men in Green secured a victory over the Indian cricket team during the 2021 T20 World Cup, making Babar Azam the only Pakistan captain to achieve this feat in a World Cup match.
Records Are Made To Be Broken – Babar Azam
The 28-year-old emphasized that he doesn’t dwell on past records and, instead, focuses on the future. Babar acknowledged that records can be broken and is determined to break India’s 7-0 winning streak against Pakistan in the ODI World Cup.
“I don’t focus on the past; I try to focus on the future. Such records are made to be broken, and I try to break them. I will try to give a good performance tomorrow (Saturday). It depends on the day and how you play. I believe my team did well in the first two matches and will do well in the next matches as well,” Azam said.
India has emerged victorious in all seven encounters against Pakistan in the 50-over World Cup since the 1992 edition. Four years ago, Pakistan suffered an 89-run defeat against their arch-rivals in a rain-affected match.
