The Indian national cricket team experienced injury setbacks ahead of the much-awaited match against arch-rivals Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024. As per the latest news reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) raised an "unofficial" complaint to the ICC over the condition of the practice pitch.

The Rohit Sharma-led team will lock horns with Pakistan at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday, June 5. The Men in Blue are currently in second place in the Group A table with two points. A win in the upcoming match will almost seal their berth in the Super 8s of the event.

Rohit Sharma faced an injury scare during a practice session at Cantiague Park near New York City on Friday, as per RevSportz. The right-handed batter was struck on the thumb while facing Sri Lankan throwdown specialist Nuwan in the nets. However, Rohit resumed batting briefly before leaving the practice session.

A few days ago, the Indian skipper was forced to retire hurt during the match against Ireland due to a sore arm. The veteran opening batter was hit on the upper arm by a delivery from pacer Josh Little. Rohit, who scored an unbeaten 52 off 37 balls, revealed that it was indeed a sore arm in the post-match presentation.

As per Dainik Jagran reporter Abhishek Tripathi, former skipper Virat Kohli also encountered challenges during his batting session, although he did not sustain any injuries. Rohit received immediate attention from a physiotherapist after the ball struck his gloves. He batted from the opposite end of the practice for a brief period.

According to the journalist, the incident prompted the BCCI to make an informal complaint to the ICC regarding the condition of the practice pitch.

Deliver The Best Possible Surfaces For The Remaining Matches - ICC

The International Cricket Council stated on Thursday that the pitches used in the T20 World Cup match in New York have not met the expected standards. The cricket board assured that the ground staff is working to improve them for the remaining matches of the tournament.

"The pitches used so far at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have not played as consistently as we would have all wanted. The world-class grounds team have been working hard since the conclusion of yesterday's game to remedy the situation and deliver the best possible surfaces for the remaining matches," the ICC said.

The Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York hosted the match between Sri Lanka and South Africa earlier this week. The Sri Lankan batters managed to score 77 runs in 19.1 overs. The South African team took 16.2 overs to chase down the target. Ireland was bowled out for 96 runs during the match against India.
