Pakistan captain Babar Azam feels that the Men in Green have an edge over India in the upcoming Super Four clash in the ongoing Asia Cup in Colombo. Babar Azam highlighted that Pakistani players have been playing in Sri Lanka across all formats of the game over the past two months.
The Babar Azam-led team played a Test series against Sri Lanka in July. Pakistani players also participated in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023, followed by a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. These experiences helped them acclimatize to the conditions ahead of the Asia Cup 2023.
We Have An Advantage – Babar Azam
Speaking to reporters in the pre-match press conference, Babar Azam expressed that playing in Sri Lanka will help them reach the final of the continental tournament.
“Given the continuous cricket we are playing both in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, you can say that we hold an edge (over India),” Babar Azam told reporters.
“We have been playing here in Sri Lanka for the past two months or so. We have played Tests, we played a series against Afghanistan and then the LPL… So it can be said that we have an advantage.”
The Babar Azam-led team will lock horns with the Rohit Sharma-led team in their next match at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday, September 10. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) decided to keep a reserve day for the match if the match is interrupted by rain.
We Have Planned Everything Well – Babar Azam
The Pakistan skipper stated that they were not bothered by the travelling as they were aware of the schedule before the start of the tournament.
“We always knew the schedule and how much we have to travel. So, it’s become important how we look after our players. We have planned everything well,” he further added.
Pakistan had the hosting rights for the Asia Cup 2023, but it is played in a hybrid model. The team has had to do a significant amount of travelling between matches. They hosted the tournament’s opener against Nepal at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan on August 30.
The Babar Azam-led team travelled to Sri Lanka for their next game against India in Pallekele on September 2. The Men in Green flew back to home to play against Bangladesh in Lahore, and they have now returned to the island nation for the remainder of the tournament.
