IND vs PAK: Pakistan Climb To No.1 Spot In ODI Rankings Following Series Victory Against Afghanistan

Pakistan’s National Cricket Team climbed to the top spot in the ICC Men’s ODI rankings following their recent 3-0 victory against Afghanistan’s National Cricket Team. The Men in Green became the No. 1 ODI team ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023.

The Babar Azam-led team defeated the Afghan team by 59 runs in the final ODI of the three-match series at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Saturday, August 26. Pakistan rose in the ICC rankings after whitewashing the opposition in the recently concluded ODI series.

Pakistan claimed the No. 1 ranking in the 50-over format, surpassing Australia. Before the ODI series, they were second with 115.8 rating points, while Australia was in the top spot with 118 rating points. Pakistan moved to the top spot with 118.48 rating points following the 3-0 victory.

Proud Moment For All Of Us – Zaka Ashraf

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee chairman Zaka Ashraf expressed delight in reclaiming the No. 1 ranking in the 50-over format.

“This achievement reflects the hard work, dedication, and unity exhibited by our talented players and their unwavering focus on excellence. It is a proud moment for all of us as the Pakistan cricket team reclaim the top spot in the ODI rankings,” Ashraf said.

“I also want to congratulate and laud the efforts of the entire squad, coaching staff, and support personnel for their collective commitment to raising the flag of Pakistan high in the world of cricket,” he added.

The Rohit Sharma-led team is currently in third place with 113 rating points in the ODI team rankings. The Men in Blue defeated the West Indies by a 2-1 margin in their most recent series in the Caribbean Islands.

Pakistan White Washed Afghanistan In ODI Series

The 1992 World Cup champions started the ODI series on a high note by beating the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led team by 142 runs. Pakistan fast bowlers ran through Afghanistan batters and bowled out the opposition for just 59 runs in the series opener in Hambantota.

The Babar Azam-led team registered a narrow 1-wicket victory in the second ODI. The Pakistan cricket team chased down the target of 301 runs with one ball to spare in the second ODI. Notably, Pakistan emerged victorious in all six ODI matches against Afghanistan.
