Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh picked the two key battles to watch out for in the game between India and Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024. He believes that Rohit Sharma vs Mohammad Amir and Virat Kohli vs Shaheen Afridi will be the big matchups in the game.
India and Pakistan will be up against each other in the 19th match of the T20 World Cup 2024. The games between the two arch-rivals will be played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday (9th June).
India will be entering the game on the back of a dominating win against Ireland while Pakistan will be down on confidence after facing the loss against the United States of America but one cannot write them off and it promises to be an enthralling clash.
It’s fair to say that it will be the battle between the Indian batters and the Pakistani pacers as both the teams have quality players in the ranks. The two teams have engaged in breathtaking battles over the years and this time around it won’t be different.
India has some world-class batters Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, and others. On the other hand, Pakistan has one of the best bowling lineups with Mohammad Amir, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah.
Also with the pitch at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York being pace-friendly, it will altogether be a different challenge for the Indian batters. The pitch has been a nightmare for batters and keeping their nerve will be key for the batters as well as bowlers. Along with the battle, pressure will be high and whoever holds his nerves will emerge victorious.
Yuvraj Singh admitted that those involved in the game are taken by the emotions. He talked about the key battles to watch out for, claiming that Pakistan has the best bowlers and India has the best batters. Speaking to ICC, the former India player stated:
"I think we're all moved by the emotion of the India-Pakistan game because we have a lot of history. Pakistan have got some fiery bowlers. I think we got a stronger batting side.
“I'm definitely looking at Mohammad Amir vs Rohit because he likes to get the ball full and then Shaheen Afridi against Virat. I think these are going to be some big matchups.”
I feel the team which plays according to the situation and keeps the emotion back will definitely win this game - Yuvraj Singh
Yuvraj Singh also talked about the importance of using mind in the game. He claimed that the side that plays according to the situation and keeps their emotions calm will win the game. He explained:
"But at the end of the day, you have to use your mind. You have to play according to the situation and I feel the team which plays according to the situation and keeps the emotion back will definitely win this game," he concluded.
