Rohan Gavaskar has refuted a fabricated statement falsely attributed to his father, Sunil Gavaskar, regarding the BCCI’s involvement in planning the Asia Cup 2023 schedule. Rohan clarified that the statement is entirely untrue, accusing someone of trying to cause confusion by spreading this misinformation.

The highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan was abandoned due to rain in Pallekele on Saturday, September 2. Following the washout between the two teams, a misleading statement regarding the Asia Cup schedule, falsely attributed to senior Gavaskar, went viral on social media.

A user took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and quoted the statement that the BCCI was politicising the game, attributing the quote to Sunil Gavaskar.

“It should be a matter of utter shame for us as Indians for politicizing, ruining and basically hijacking this beautiful game of cricket. BCCI has let India down and tonight’s results are a testimony of it,” it reads.

Sunil Gavaskar Hasn’t Made This Statement – Rohan Gavaskar

Rohan Gavaskar reacted to the post and said that his father didn’t make any statements about the schedule of the ongoing Asia Cup.

“This is a completely fabricated statement attributed to my father . He hasn’t made this statement and someone is just trying to create mischief . It’s absolutely ridiculous that people would use his name to get more engagement. Please retweet so that the truth prevails,” Rohan wrote.

India Will Advance To Super 4 Stage With A Washout

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) faced criticism for scheduling matches in Sri Lanka during the rainy season. The ACC picked Sri Lanka as a co-host after the BCCI declined to travel to Pakistan. The UAE was considered as an alternative venue but was not allocated due to the hot weather.

The Rohit Sharma-led team will face Nepal in their second and final group-stage match at the same venue on Monday, September 4. However, the Men in Blue’s next match could face a similar washout, as the latest weather reports forecast rain throughout the match in Kandy.

The Indian National Cricket Team will qualify for the next stage with two points if rain prevents a result in the match. The Babar Azam-led team, which is the topper of a Group A points table, has already qualified for the Super Four phase of the six-team continental tournament.
