Pakistan wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan guided the team to a victory against Sri Lanka in the 8th match of the ICC World Cup 2023. Mohammad Rizwan had a playful exchange with commentator Simon Doull after receiving the Player of the Match award.

The Babar Azam-led team secured back-to-back victories in the ongoing marquee event. The Men in Green successfully chased down a target of 345 with six wickets in hand against Sri Lanka at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Tuesday, October 10.

The Pakistan team lost two early wickets, including skipper Babar Azam (10), during the run chase. Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan added a crucial 176-run partnership for the third wicket. Shafique (113) made a stunning ODI World Cup debut in Hyderabad.

The wicketkeeper batter scored an unbeaten 131 off 121 deliveries, leading Pakistan to a comfortable six-wicket victory with 10 deliveries remaining. He scored the match-winning run in Pakistan’s victory, which is the highest successful chase in World Cup history.

Mohammad Rizwan showed incredible endurance by batting for more than 40 overs after keeping wickets in the scorching heat during the afternoon. He suffered from cramps multiple times throughout the chase but played till the end to help the team reach the target.

Sometimes It’s Cramps – Mohammad Rizwan

Rizwan smashed a delivery over long-off for a six during the 37th over, but the celebration was short-lived as he suddenly collapsed in pain right after the shot. Commentator Simon Doull couldn’t hold back his laughter, joking that Rizwan should consider a career in acting.

During the post-match presentation, Doull asked about his cramps, and Mohammad Rizwan playfully responded, “Sometimes it’s cramps, sometimes it’s my acting,” with a sheepish smile.

The 31-year-old has displayed remarkable form in ODI cricket throughout this year, consistently delivering impressive performances. The right-handed batter scored 827 runs in 17 innings, for an impressive average of 75.18. He has smashed 1 century and 7 half centuries so far.
