IND vs PAK weather report: What happens if India vs Pakistan match gets washed out in T20 World Cup 2026?

Team India will take on Pakistan in the most anticipated clash of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, February 15. However, the usual pre-match buzz has been overshadowed by dark clouds, as the weather forecast for the Sri Lankan capital is not promising.
India have started their T20 World Cup campaign by beating the USA by 29 runs in Mumbai before cruising to a 93-run victory over Namibia in Delhi. Pakistan, meanwhile, defeated the Netherlands by three wickets in Colombo (SSC) and followed it up with a 32-run win over the USA at the same venue.
The match between India and Pakistan in Colombo has generated huge excitement, but the weather could become a concern, with rain predicted around match time.
Colombo Weather Update: Rain Threat Looms Over R. Premadasa Stadium
The latest meteorological reports from Colombo predict a massive 70–80% chance of precipitation during match hours on Sunday. Heavy thunderstorms are expected to lash the city, with humidity levels soaring above 85%.
While the drainage system at the R. Premadasa Stadium is among the best in the world, the heavy rain forecast could prove too much for the ground staff to manage.
The ICC match officials will wait as long as possible to squeeze in at least a five-overs-per-side contest, but if the rain remains persistent, the match will be abandoned.
How a Washout Could Impact Qualification Scenarios
A rain-affected match can still produce a result if enough overs are completed. In such cases, officials use the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method to adjust targets and decide the winner in a shortened game. However, at least five overs per side are required for the match to count.
If the India–Pakistan game is declared a no result, both teams will receive one point each, and neither side will get a chance to improve their Net Run Rate, which could become crucial later in the group stage.
The Men in Blue would move to five points with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +3.125. Pakistan would also reach five points. If both India and Pakistan get to five points due to a washout, the USA and the Netherlands would be left with no mathematical path to overtake them.
Is There a Reserve Day for the India vs Pakistan Match?
There is no reserve day for group-stage matches in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The ICC has kept reserve days only for the semi-finals and the final, not for league games or the Super 8 stage.
For group matches, officials use the extra buffer time, usually around 60 to 90 minutes, to try to force a result. However, the match must still meet the minimum requirement of five overs per side to be considered valid.
If rain prevents even a five-overs-per-team contest on February 15, the upcoming match will be declared a no-result.
