The most awaited day of the year for cricket fans has finally arrived as Pakistan will take on Team India in their ICC T20 World Cup 2022 opening encounter at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, October 23. The mother of all battles between the two teams will be renewed after last month’s Asia Cup thrillers.

The Babar Azam-led side have had an edge over India in the last 12 months, winning twice in three meetings. This will be the 13th time Pakistan will face India in a World Cup match. Their only win against the Men in Blue came last October in Dubai. Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam successfully chased down the 152-run target set by India without losing a wicket, giving Pakistan a convincing 10-wicket victory.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Ramiz Raja expects the ultimate reward from Babar Azam as he revealed his last-minute conversation with the skipper before the match against arch-rivals India.

No Other Option In Mind Other Than Bringing The Trophy Of T20 World Cup – Ramiz Raja

“I have told captain Babar Azam to only dream about winning T20 World Cup. I have asked Babar Azam there should be kept no other option in mind other than bringing the trophy of T20 World Cup back home,” he said in conversation with Geo.TV.

“World Cup is a mind game. It is a task of not losing courage and a fulfilment of a dream — which is to win a World Cup,” he added.

Ramiz Raja was part of the Pakistan team that won the World Cup in Australia in 1992 and shared some tips with Babar Azam on how to deal with Australian conditions. Expectations are really high on Pakistan as the team has been doing exceptionally well in the shorter format. The Men in Green haven’t won the World Cup since 2009.

“The other team can also play well some day or the weather might play a role [in the match]. But fans must support the team, as it is the best to have been sent to [play] the field. In Pakistan, players get the time to play shots, but that’s not the case in Australia,” he concluded.
